Wood Panel Paintings

Hellooo lovely people!

I finally found some time today to take a few pictures of some things I've been working on. I've been really into painting on wood lately so everything that I'm sharing in this post is painted on birch wood panels.

This week, I tried papercutting and made a little fox. I also tried linocutting and carved the same little fox into a linoleum stamp. I used this stamp to make black fox prints on wood (seen below!). I also did a series of painted succulents... for people like me who keep unintentionally killing real plants. =P

DIY: painted pots

The past few months have been busy but at last, I'm free as a bird and I'm going on a much-anticipated holiday soon! I'm off to Paris + Italy next week but before that I finally had some time to work on a few art projects! I bought a few more succulents the other day (hopefully this batch will survive) and decided to spruce up some of my old pots!

Here are the instructions:

1) Spray-paint the pots in a well-ventilated area (I did two layers of Rustoleum's "Flat White")
2) Paint details (I mostly used acrylic paint and a thin brush)
3) Spray a light top coat of varnish to give the pots a protective layer

I used acrylic paint to paint the inside rims and pot edges in a light mint green colour. For the black triangles and other details I used a permanent marker. For the gold dots on the polka-dot pot, I actually used gold spray paint (I sprayed a little patch of the paint onto an old piece of cardboard, and created the perfect dots using the back of my brush).

This DIY is super easy and really changes the look of those standard pots. Oh and I also took a few photos at the end of a new birch panel painting I made. Hope you like it!

Lately I've been drawn to painting floral things again. I go through phases where I want to create cute cartoony doodles, and then other days when I'll dream of wreaths and wildflowers. I guess that's why I have a blog to post all my artistic experimentations and mishmash of drawings and paintings. I do still hope that you find all the content interesting though even if I do have different art styles. I guess the general "art" aspect of the blog is still semi-coherent (just like my ramblings).

Anyway, now that the "better together" series is all done (even though I keep bringing it up in every subsequent post haha), I can now move on to providing a little bit more variety on the blog. I'll be posting more of my artwork since I realized I have paintings that haven't even seen the light of day and are secretly festering away in my sketchbook or hidden under dusty piles in my closet.

Also, I will continue to do a little DIY project every once in awhile since you guys seem to like those, and maybe even some wedding posts (of craft projects I did for my wedding last year, as well as super cute projects from other friends' weddings).

For now, here's a little sketch I did awhile ago of an Albert Einstein quote and those wildflower wreaths that I am so enamoured with. Enjoy!  :)

Better Together: a little bonus drawing!

So my husband Randy came back from India today and I wanted to surprise him with something special. I had previously asked him to give me ideas for the "better together" series and being the comic book geek enthusiast that he is, he had suggested NINJA + TURTLE. Even though it wasn't food-related like all the other ones, it was such an awesome idea I just HAD to do it. So... here it is! A little bonus one for all you TMNT fans (and yes, by using the abbreviation I am trying to be cool and pretend I know what I'm talking about).

It also looks pretty cute all framed up as a postcard print along with my cacti!

Better Together: Day 30

It's been fun but this is the last little "Better Together" food drawing! I can't believe I actually made one-a-day for a whole month! There were many good suggestions for the last food pairing, but I decided to choose the most celebratory one and finish off with some sprinkles and confetti. Thanks for following me these 30 days... it was a good challenge for myself to fully commit my time and creativity to something, and stick with it from start to finish! But to be honest I'm kind of relieved to be done so I can move on to new projects and other artsy endeavors!

Side note: I mentioned before that I wasn't intending to do all food pairings for this series but it just ended up like that. I do actually have ONE last specially-requested pairing that is not food-related (and it's a pretty awesome one!) so come back tomorrow to see what it is!

Lastly, if you are interested in purchasing any prints from this series, you can email me to order and let me know which ones you want because I won't be printing all 30 designs at the moment.

Anyway, talk to you all soon! :)

Better Together: Day 29

Since my s'mores drawing was one of the most popular, I decided to do another one with multiple characters that was also requested... a BLT sandwich! They look like such a happy gang... or on second thought... maybe those two pieces of bread are creepily closing in on Miss Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato there. Anyways, there's one more day left (of this drawing challenge and until a special someone comes back from India!). I've already decided what I'm going to draw tomorrow (hint: it's one of the ideas from my list) so check back again in a few hours for the final one!  :)

Better Together: Day 28

Beer + wings is today's requested combination! I'm such a pro at these now haha. After 28 days of continuously plugging away at these drawings, I've got it down to drawing them, touching them up in Photoshop, and posting them within 30-40 minutes. The longest amount of time is probably wasted spent on figuring out what to write for these posts! :P

By the way, thanks to everyone who messaged me with suggestions. You can still leave a comment and vote for tomorrow's drawing!
